Absolutely. Every four years, new national electric codes come out that we need to study and understand. It’s usually a 600-page book with updates that we stay on top of so we can address them in the field and pass code inspections. There are also industry-standard practices, like how we handle calls and the way we go back to the source point and eliminate things to find the solution to a problem. OSHA also has standards that we need to meet for safety. Accidents can happen, but OSHA safety procedures help keep us safe on the job.

Will supply chain or inflation issues impact my project?

Inflation on materials is high right now, and materials are very backed up. We have to order items in bulk just to keep them in stock. This also means special order items may take months to get here, and a lot of popular items are backed up. We’ve also noticed that some people are holding off on their electrical projects because they don’t want to spend right now, but that may cause a backlog of jobs when things start moving again.

Why is it important to hire an electrical company with an involved owner?

Electrical companies used to be able to send someone from the office to pull permits, but recent code changes dictate that a licensed owner has to handle that. Some of the larger companies have owners who aren’t involved in the day-to-day operations, so it takes time to get permits. With smaller companies that have active owners, it’s often easier to get permits in a timely manner.
