Video: Look Beyond the Clog With a Video Inspection

with Joey McDaniel of Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Sonoma County

All right, today we're gonna talk about the importance of video inspecting after a backup. We all hope that our plumbing and drainage system will last forever. However, that's not the case. Whenever you have a backup, it is usually the symptom and not the cause of the problem. So once you clear the sewer line, whether it's, again, kitchen or main sewer line, you then have the ability to put a camera in there, so through a toilet flange or through a cleanout out in front or a cleanout even for your kitchen on the side wall of your home.

You have access to put the camera into the sewer line, and it gives you a clear visual of the interior side, and you can see the shifts in the pipe or the breaks or the roots or any sags that will indicate themselves by holding water. Whether it's a kitchen line, a laundry line or, a sink or even a main sewer line, it's always important to get a video inspection after you're able to clear that blockage.

We live in California. Our ground moves a lot. Many earthquakes can shift pipes causing breakages and roots in there. Underneath the house, straps can break so you get strap breakage causing sags, or fifty to sixty-year-old cast iron underneath can rot from the bottom and actually be leaking into the crawl space.

So a video inspection can help us to identify if there's any other issues going along with that backup, so that way you can figure out how to best figure them out.
