Cavin Wilmot: Service Starts With People
By Caitlyn Stair, Diamond Certified Research Reporter
Cavin Wilmot’s path to the HVAC industry began less than four years ago, when he decided to make a major career change after spending over a decade working at Costco. Looking for a new path, he found an opportunity with Moore Home Services that would ultimately reshape his future. “Moore gave me the chance to get trained from the ground up,” he says. That experience left a lasting impact on him and continues to influence the way he approaches leadership today.
As Moore Home Services’ HVAC manager, Cavin now helps oversee the maintenance and design sides of the business while supporting technicians who are learning the trade themselves. In many ways, he sees his own story reflected in the people he mentors. “My favorite part of the job is helping guys who’ve never worked on HVAC equipment,” he says. “I have the unique opportunity to not only train the maintenance side, but the design side as well.”
Cavin says one of the most rewarding aspects of his job is the ability to provide customers with complete home service solutions. Rather than outsourcing different aspects of HVAC or plumbing projects, he appreciates that Moore Home Services can handle everything under one roof. “I love when a client says, ‘Oh, you guys do that, too!’ Since we don’t have to outsource anything related to HVAC or plumbing, we have a real ‘one-stop shop’ feel.”
In his day-to-day role, Cavin prioritizes communication and follow-through on each job. Whether it’s a basic tune-up or a large-scale installation, he believes every client deserves the same level of attention and care. “When it comes to more complicated installations, I’ll typically go to the house and do a full walkthrough to make sure everyone is on the same page,” he adds.
A lifelong resident of Rohnert Park, Cavin says he appreciates that the city has maintained its close-knit feel despite its growth over the years. “Rohnert Park is one of the only towns [in Sonoma County] that still feels small but has all the things you need at arm’s distance.”
Outside of work, Cavin enjoys spending time with his wife, Rach, their three children, and their dog, Thor. When he’s not working or on a family outing, he likes getting on the golf course whenever possible. “Living right next to Foxtail Golf Club certainly helps,” he laughs. A former college water polo player, Cavin also enjoys any opportunity to spend time in the pool or the ocean.
At the core of Cavin’s professional philosophy is a lesson his parents taught him when he was young: Treat others with kindness and respect. “Our clients are our neighbors, so I’m always going to treat them as I would my own family,” he says. “I also try to instill those values in our technicians so our customers can feel confident and safe in their decisions.”

A: The Minnesota Vikings. I have family in Duluth, Minnesota. My dad is a Vikings fan, my grandpa was a Vikings fan and hopefully my kids will be, too.
Q: Are you a dog person or a cat person?
A: A dog person. I have conversations with my husky and I’m pretty sure he understands and talks back.
Q: If you could time-travel, would you go to the past or the future?
A: The past. I’m 6’4” and 265 pounds, so I think I would’ve made an exceptional Viking warrior.

A: Travel all over the world. I want to see everything I can.
