Okay. Foundation issues will show up early in, in small ways before you have a real structural problem with the house. So y- things to look for are sloping floors, cracks in wallboard above windows and doorframes, sticking doors, stuck doors, stuck windows. While these symptoms can indicate foundation movement, they don't always point to a severe failure.
In many cases, they're related to soil conditions and moisture imbalance throughout th- the exterior of the home. In regions as the Bay Area, we have expansive soils. Um, they expand when they get wet and they shrink as they dry. This cyclic movement causes a home to shift around, um, and that's where we can get cracks in the home and sticking doors.
Without a proper engineered solution that incorporates drainage around the home to compensate for the expansive nature of the soils, um, the home will continue to move and it can lead to further structural problems. So addressing the soils with some sort of drainage system in conjunction, um, with a foundation repair, be it, um, push piers, piles, helical piers, or drilled caissons, um, you need to incorporate both solutions together.
If left unchecked, these foundation movements can lead to severe problems with the home, and this is where you should seek the advice of a professional, um, an engineer who understands the soils around the Bay Area.
