When looking at existing landscapes, one of our, one of the most common points of failure is the hardscaping. The key to a quality hardscape installation is the sub-base and preparation and the drainage considerations. When we install concrete and pavers, we install a four to six-inch layer of compacted base rock, which sets the stability for the hardscape to be stable.
When we start the hardscaping process, we survey the yard to understand what all the existing grades are doing so that we can make an educated decision on which way to pitch the patio to flow the water in a favorable direction, or if we need to implement some surface drains into the patio. Properly managing the drainage is what can, what helps the patio stay stable in the long term.
