Video: Maintaining an Exterior Paint Job

with Yefim Skomorovsky of Classic Shades Painting Co.

Say you just got a brand new shiny paint job, but how do you keep it so for the longest possible time? How do you maintain it? What can you do?

After a year or so you will see some dirt accumulating on the windowsills perhaps and you might see some mildew. And what you can do and should do really is rinse that stuff off. And mildew could be removed with a little bit of household bleach solution of a one to four with a little garden sprayer. Maybe spray it on, keep it on for maybe a few minutes, and rinse it off. That keeps it at bay. It kills the spores, and keeps it away for another year or so.

In a few years you might see that the caulk joints begin to split and if you're looking for it and you see it, a little bit of caulk will keep the water out of the substrate and, it will extend the life of the paint job. Do that maybe every spring and make it a habit, and you'll get a lot more out of your paint job.
