Diamond certified company PROFILE

The Lacey Construction Company provides a wide range of remodeling services for residential and commercial clients in Sonoma, Marin, and Mendocino Counties. The company has the in-house capabilities to plan, manage and build everything from room additions to multiphase construction projects, and it implements Green building methods like waste minimization and the use of Energy Star equipment and appliances whenever possible.

Owner Cory Lacey says The Lacey Construction Company’s old-fashioned approach to construction has allowed it to build and maintain a loyal clientele base. “We come from a background that prioritizes a foundation of quality skills and an appreciation for the building process, and our clients really respond to that. We try very hard to produce efficient, clean, long-lasting work that shows we care about what we’re doing.”

The Lacey Construction Company strives to streamline the remodeling process for its clients so they have positive, stress-free experiences. “We always try to be mindful of what our clients are going through, so we keep them updated about what’s going on and make sure they’re not paying for unnecessary labor or materials,” explains Mr. Lacey. “At the end of the day, we want every project to be as close to perfect as possible.”

Comparative Summary

Maintaining customer satisfaction is a crucial aspect of any business, but it’s even more important for remodeling contractors that have earned the prestigious Diamond Certified award. For The Lacey Construction Company, the key to keeping clients happy is simple: combine old-school techniques with modern technology to produce high-quality results. “I come from a family of carpenters that goes back eight generations, so I know the importance of taking my time and respecting the process,” explains owner Cory Lacey. “Because of that, we’re able to bring a classic, detail-oriented approach to each job, which isn’t always a given in the new age of construction.”

The Lacey Construction Company has been providing remodeling services for residential and commercial clients in Sonoma, Marin, and Mendocino Counties since 2018. The company is qualified to plan, manage and build everything from room additions to multiphase construction projects, and it uses Green building methods like waste minimization and Energy Star equipment whenever possible.

Unlike remodeling contractors that only honor the one-year labor warranty that’s required by California law, The Lacey Construction Company backs all of its work with a lifetime craftsmanship warranty. “Our work is built to last and shows that we care about what we’re doing,” says Mr. Lacey. “We’re perfectionists, so it’s critical that we handle every phase of every project correctly and ensure a high level of quality from start to finish.”

The Lacey Construction Company further differentiates itself from its competition by thinking about the future with each project it undertakes. “For example, if we’re installing a giant pergola on a patio, we’ll also install gas or water lines in case the client wants to make changes in the future,” says Mr. Lacey. “Being mindful of what our clients want leads to better outcomes. We want to leave a legacy and put our mark on the industry, so we produce high-end homes and remodels by doing things the right way.”

Industry Info

Take simple steps to get the most out of your remodeling project.

If you’re investing in a home remodel or room addition, you’ll definitely want to make your investment last as long as possible. Here are some easy tips that will help you maximize your project and get the most out of your investment.

Hire a contractor who’s focused on value, not cheap bids. Be smart about spending, but don’t be cheap. Construction is expensive, but you’ll find the best value by hiring a contractor who cares about using quality materials and doing the work correctly. Companies that are properly insured and use first-rate materials will be more expensive to hire, but their services will be safer and their work is likely to last longer, which will save you money in the long run.

Think about the future. Cory Lacey, owner of The Lacey Construction Company in Santa Rosa, says quality contractors use their expertise to think beyond the project at hand. “For example, if you’re having a pergola installed on your patio, your contractor should also put in gas or water lines so you don’t have to pay for materials or labor twice if you decide to update your space in the future.”

Insist on quality materials and methods. Buying materials that are efficient and come with good warranties further protects your investment, as do contractors who correctly prepare and install those materials. Ask your contractor what steps they’ll take to select, install and finalize materials so your construction project looks good for many years.

Keep up on maintenance. “Once your contractor leaves the jobsite, it’s your responsibility to protect your investment,” says Mr. Lacey. “If you have a new deck, for instance, you need to stain and pressure wash it to keep it clean. Also, it’s important to maintain your home’s exterior paint—otherwise, it’ll be susceptible to pests and water damage.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How soon can you start my remodeling project?

A: It usually takes three to four weeks to start a project from the point of the initial site walkthrough. A lot of times, we end up going back and forth with clients via email or phone, so we won’t be able to start planning until we can actually look at your site and see what’s going on. Once those details are determined, we’ll put you on our schedule and start as soon as possible.

Q: How long will it take to complete my project?

A: It depends on the scope of the work, the permit situation, and if we’re providing the design or working with outside architects or engineers. Once we determine the specifics of your project, we’ll be able to give you a time projection.

Q: How much will it cost to complete my project?

A: It depends on the job, but we’re very fair with our rates. We don’t have a lot of overhead because this is a family-owned business, so we don’t have the rental fees and different charges that some other companies have. We also work with a small number of trusted subcontractors, so you’ll get fine craftsmanship at a fair cost.

Q: Do your employees operate safely?

A: Absolutely. The entire industry is changing—in the past, construction firms didn’t always protect their workers, but today it’s all about safety. We stay aware of our surroundings and pay attention to how we construct things. We use lasers and high-end tools that allow us to be more efficient, and we take extra time to look at the full scope of work before we begin to ensure we can do things safely while staying on schedule.

Q: Can you work on homes that don’t have power?

A: Yes. Many of our tools are cordless, which gives us the freedom to go to rural sites in the hills or mountains. In the past, we would need to bring generators, but now we just charge up our batteries and run the tools all day without problems.
