Video: Don’t Skip Roof Maintenance

Here's some advice on how to maintain your roof. Many times customers think that once you get a re-roof, your roof and your home will be safe for the next 20, 30, even 50 years that a roofer promised you. That is not the case. All roofs, from shingles to especially tile roofs, need maintenance. 

When it comes to a tile roof, people don't realize that even if you don't have trees around you, debris can fall in the valleys, behind chimneys, or under flashings. One thing you have to do is make sure that all those things are opened up and cleaned, so that means removing tile, having it cleaned. It's best to get it done through a professional roofer so they know what they're doing. 

Also, with tile and shingle, you start to see silicone deteriorate, and you want to have that refreshed. That won't last the full 20, 30 years of the roof. And when that starts to go, you have the possibility of water seeping through those small locations. 

Make sure you get a maintenance done at least every five years on a shingle roof, and with a tile roof, you probably wanna do something everythree to four years just to be safe. Especially if you have trees around your home, you wanna do that more often.
