Wilber Barrios: Making it Right
By Matt Solis, Editor
Wilber Barrios’ construction roots go back to 2014, when his father started bringing him to jobsites on weekends and school holidays. “My dad was a foreman at a well-established construction firm, so he would take me out and give me hands-on experience, which is how I got a feel for the work,” he remembers. “After high school, I joined the same company and worked there until the pandemic forced the owners to retire. My dad and I knew we had enough knowledge and experience, so we decided it was time to branch out on our own and established Make it Right Carpentry.”
Today, Wilber says his favorite part of his job is meeting new people. “Every day is different and I get to talk to people from all over the world, which keeps things exciting. Also, since I live right here in Novato, I can get to my clients quickly if they have emergencies, which is important to me.”
While Wilber appreciates Marin County’s food scene, picturesque walking trails, abundant fishing spots and proximity to iconic landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge, he likes spending most of his free time with his family. “My wife, Ruvia, and I have a two-year-old son, so I love being with them whenever I can,” he affirms. “Whether we’re discovering new restaurants or just hanging out at home, I enjoy my time with them because I know it goes by fast.”
When it comes to a personal or professional philosophy, Wilber adheres to a simple mantra that directly applies to the name of his business. “I believe that by making things right, everything will go right,” he offers. “It’s in the name of the company—we try to make things right for our clients so we get as much good back as possible.”
When asked what his life might look like if he retired tomorrow, Wilber says he would likely channel his passion for construction into a teaching role. “I’d love to join a program that helps train and guide people who are entering the trade,” he says. “I think it would be rewarding to share what I’ve learned over the years.”
