Sergio Ledezma: One Percent Better
By Matt Solis, Editor
When Sergio Ledezma graduated from college, he wasn’t sure what his next move should be, but one option was always on the table: helping with the family business. “My father, German, founded L & S Plumbing in 2006, and after years of watching both of my parents work hard to keep the business running, I decided to step in and join them,” he recalls. “I knew I could help grow our operations—not just for myself, but for my whole family.”
As office manager of L & S Plumbing, Sergio focuses on expanding the company’s reach and modernizing its processes, all while honoring the foundation that his father built. He says his favorite part of his day-to-day job is seeing projects through from concept to completion. “We do a lot of plumbing for construction projects, so I really like walking through a gutted house and seeing it come to life. It also feels great when a customer is happy at the end of the process.”
A lifelong resident of the Bay Area, Sergio currently lives in Belmont, where he appreciates the city’s natural surroundings and sense of community. “I recently learned that ‘Belmont’ is a shortened version of the Italian words for ‘beautiful mountains,’ which pretty much says it all,” he offers. “It’s a quiet place with lots of trees and nature—there’s always great weather and I get to wake up to birds singing.”
When he’s not managing jobsites and answering calls, Sergio likes staying active by hiking, running and enjoying the outdoors. At the end of the day, though, it’s the little things that matter most. “Coming home to a warm meal and relaxing with my girlfriend…those are my favorite moments,” he says.
In terms of a guiding philosophy, Sergio says he’s all about forward momentum. “I heard someone say, ‘Just try to be one percent better every day,’ and that’s something I really think about. I’ve only been in the plumbing industry for a year, and some days are hard because I know there are things that I should be learning, but I just tell myself to be one percent better than the day before. That way, I can stay motivated and keep pushing to get better.”
