A Simple Way to Prevent Water Damage

Water damage can happen fast, and when it does, the costs add up quickly. One of the most effective ways to protect your home from water damage is also one of the simplest: Know where your main water shutoff valve is located.

In the event of a burst pipe or major plumbing leak, shutting off the water immediately can prevent thousands of dollars in structural damage. Surprisingly, many homeowners don’t locate their main water shutoff valve until disaster strikes. As a general rule, the valve is usually found near the front of the house—often outside near a hose bib, in the garage or adjacent to the water meter. It’s worthwhile to take a few minutes to find yours and make sure everyone in your household knows how to operate it during an emergency.

If you’re looking for even more protection, consider installing a smart water shutoff system like the Moen Flo Shutoff. This device monitors your water usage patterns and will automatically shut off the water if it detects unusual activity, giving you peace of mind even when you’re away from home.
