David Langdale: Swinging for the Fences
By Matt Solis, Editor
David Langdale began his career in San Francisco’s construction industry, but after the 2008 stock market crash brought business to a standstill, he knew he had to pivot. “I was doing tenant improvements for a bunch of high-rise buildings, but when things started to slow down I transitioned to kitchen and bathroom remodeling,” he explains. “I had to learn a lot about plumbing as a result and found that I really liked it, so I made the switch in 2011.”
David’s self-taught experience eventually led him to Benjamin Franklin Plumbing, where he started as an installer and quickly rose through the ranks. Today, as general manager, he finds fulfillment in leading his team and serving his community. “My favorite part of the job is the opportunity to support our team members and help them provide for their families,” he says. “It’s also very rewarding to help customers during stressful plumbing situations.”
A lifelong resident of Sonoma County, David currently lives in Rohnert Park with his wife, Megan, and their two sons. He’s deeply involved in the community—in addition to managing a successful plumbing company, he serves as president of Rohnert Park Cal Ripken Baseball and coaches several traveling baseball teams. “The people in this town are amazing and the community spirit is really strong,” he says. “Our motto is, ‘The Friendly City,’ and that couldn’t be more fitting.”
Staying active is second nature to David—injuries have forced him to step away from his decades-long passion of dirt bike riding, but he still hits the gym five days a week and goes wake surfing whenever he gets the chance. “I’m very into fitness and staying on a healthy path with clean eating,” he affirms. “It can be difficult because we live a busy life with baseball pretty much year-round, but it’s important to me.”
When asked what his life might look like if he retired tomorrow, David doesn’t foresee a leisurely existence. “I would have to find something to keep me busy,” he laughs. “I’m a very active person, so I would probably take on a new hobby or something. I do enjoy golfing and traveling, so it would be nice to have more time for those things.”
