What’s on Your Summer To-Do List?

I kept putting off the job because of all the rain we had this spring. After seeing that, I started hunting around the house for other maintenance projects that have been deferred. I found moss on the windowsills, gunk in the gutters, a chimney that hasn’t been cleaned and a dirty furnace air filter, just to name a few things.  With the official beginning of summer this month, it’s a good time to create a maintenance checklist so you can stay on top of what needs to be done. There are lots of suggestions posted online, ranging from power washing your siding and cleaning your dryer vent to sealing your deck and having your air conditioner serviced. A couple of my personal favorites are things I frequently forget about. For instance, in the summer, you should reverse the blades of your ceiling fan (counterclockwise) so cool air gets pushed down when it’s warm inside your house. Summer is also the time to replace the batteries in your smoke/carbon monoxide detectors and organize your garage.
