Video: Dealing With a Broken Garage Door Spring

with Dean Regev of Integrity Garage Doors and Gates

I wanna talk a little bit about the classic broken spring scenario. A lot of customers don't realize their spring is broken. They call us saying, "My door's not opening. I have no clue what's going on." They keep trying the button on the wall. The door will only open a few inches and stop. The first thing you wanna do in that case is stop.

Do not attempt to open your door when your spring is broken. You will end up damaging your motor. It is very important that once a broken spring was identified, to stop using the door and call a garage door company immediately. The classic broken spring scenario, wake up in the middle of the night, hear a loud bang.

Go to the garage, check, couldn't find anything wrong, go back to sleep. Wake up in the morning, try to open your door, door only opens a few inches. Stop right there. Do not try to continue lifting the door. If you do so, you might damage your motor. When you identify a broken spring, call a garage door company immediately.

Do not attempt to fix it yourself.
