CONCORD — Host, Sarah Rutan: To keep your home’s water shut-off valves functioning properly, you’ll need to follow a simple maintenance step. To learn more, we’re in Concord with Larry Williams of Absolute Plumbing and Drain, speaking on behalf of Diamond Certified Expert Contributor Rod Tehrani.
Larry Williams: You’ve got shut-off valves at your washing machine box, or you could have a faucet inside the garage. One good tip is to turn these valves off and on once a year. Imagine if you&#8217;re getting a new washing machine, the technician come in there and he goes to turn off the valve so he can put the new washing machine in place, and he can&#8217;t do it. He will tell you; I can&#8217;t turn this off. You say, well, I can go to the front of the house and turn it off at the main shut-off valve. He tells you that won&#8217;t work. It will void the warranty if it doesn&#8217;t work at the box. So, please exercise those valves once a year.
Also, behind your toilet, underneath your sink, you got a regular shut-off valve. You should exercise those once a year. Imagine in the middle of the night, one of those hose bursts, you go to turn it off, and you can&#8217;t. You&#8217;d have to turn off the water to the whole house. But if you just exercise that valve once a year, you have no problem. You can just turn it off right there underneath the sink, and you can go back the next morning and call for help.
But with that laundry box, if you don&#8217;t exercise that valve when you&#8217;ve got to replace it, the technician will come out, he have to cut open your walls, re-solder your pipes, you have to get a sheetrock person to come in and repair the sheetrock, and a painter to come back and repair the wall. But just by exercising that valve once a year you would alleviate that problem.

when our first major storm of the year
passed
now it's time to look forward to more
rain to come
with that you have storm drains that are
stopped up or will get stopped up from
debris
there are two ways to clean those storm
drains one is with a cable one is with
hydro which is high pressure water
with the cable you run your cable inside
the storm drain but the problem is
they're not piped the same way as other
drains they don't have a long sweep 90
that may have a short 90 or a short tee
and that cabling may not clear your
drain there's no guarantee the cabling
will then you have to go to the hydro
with hydros
slender cable with high pressure water
2000 psi which go in and blow the debris
and the dirt backwards towards the entry
point and that way you can clear your
drain from the backyard to the front and
you won't have water flooding your
backyard your atrium or any area around
your garage or around your house please
clean those storm drains

today i want to talk to you about your
drain pipes
cast iron pipes as they get older there
will flake on the inside
they will get build up on the inside to
get rid of that buildup you have to have
your pipes descaled
reason being is as your pipe get bumpier
or that flaking happens
the water will not flow properly tissue
will not flow properly it has a tendency
to snag
and cause a stoppage in your drain pipe
to alleviate
this problem what you need to do is have
your drain pipes descaled
once the technician comes out and run a
camera inside your drain
and says you have built up inside your
drain pipes then you need to have it
descaled he will give you that
recommendation
and what it does is we run chain mail
depends on the pipe chainmail
for cast iron clay pipes or pvc
but we run a special chain inside of
each of those
it will clean the inside of your pipe
and your pipe will flow properly like it
was
brand new again when you first had it
installed in the ground

senior tech with absolute plumbing and
dream
i want to talk to you about one of the
major problems in stoppages
in residential and commercial is greece
grease comes from cooking grease comes
from bathing we all put out a little bit
of oil when we take a bath
but when you're cooking please do not
pour grease down your drain
when you get through cooking take that
pot take a paper towel
and wipe out that pot before you put it
in the dishwasher and wash it
reason being is grease is heavier than
water grease will settle on the bottom
of your drain pipe
and grease will eventually cause a
stoppage if you have a pipe that has a
stoppage in it
and it's been sitting for a few days you
can get a congested pipe
and what that means is the snake will go
right through it and come back out
the only way to clear congested pipe is
with a hydro flushing
we run our hydro line inside of your
drain pipe
with that pressure up to 2000 psi it
will blow all the debris
out of your pipe down the drain and your
pipe will be clear
and your drains will be functioning the
way they're supposed to be
according to the specification when you
had your house built

good for five years but if you have the
braided hose they're good for 15 years
imagine you get the rubber hose you get
a boot inside that hose you go out to
dinner that holds bursts your house is
putting out 65 psi of pressure at any
given time when that holds bursts you
don't get 65 psi pressure going into
your garage you're at dinner when you
come back you can go swimming inside
your garage by the time you get back to
