To ensure client safety on re-roofing projects, we always presite the job site with the homeowners. We'll have our estimator and our job foreman walk the grounds with them to point out areas that need special attention, and that way they know what to expect on the job site. Whether I've wanted to or not, I've always grown up around the roofing industry. I started mowing the lawn here at Shelton Roofing when I was a kid. And as I grew older, I began installing the roofs. And throughout installing the roofs, I continued my education and went to school at San Jose State. I graduated with business management, which helped me transition into the project management phase of the roofing industry, and this is helping me to achieve my goal of one day business ownership to deliver high quality on the roofing projects. Again, we emphasize pre-sight visits. That way, we know what type of machinery, equipment, and team we need for that specific job site. For our re-roofing projects, we have a dedicated crew that is the main installer. Whether it be a pitched roof or a flat roof, we have our installers dedicated to that job. We also have our own sheet metal crew. That way, we could fabricate skylight flashings, chimney flashings, install gutters, and downspouts as necessary. Once the main install is done, we send in our detail crews, which goes through the final punch list items of the job, and they also check in with the homeowners to make sure that they don't have any questions. Additionally, we use photos both before and after to show the client what is going on on the roof and for our records. Prospective clients should be asking roofing contractors if they subcontract any work in their roofing project. Not only that, they should make sure that the companies are licensed, insured, and will be obtaining a building permit for the re-roofing project. And finally, the homeowners should make sure that they discuss dry rot. Dry rot could be a hidden change order that could be extensive if not thoroughly looked at before the project starts.
