Time to Change Doctors?

by Chris Bjorklund

Most of us are reluctant to change medical providers, even when we’re not 100 percent satisfied. It’s such a hassle to start over with someone new. Who wants to fill out all those forms again? However, sometimes when you do make a switch, you end up in a much better practice. That has been my experience more than once.

Many of us must start with lists of doctors who accept our insurance. It’s always a good idea to ask friends and family for recommendations. Another step, which is sometimes overlooked, is checking out a doctor’s license with the Medical Board of California (MBC). On the MBC’s website, you can do a license search using the doctor’s last name and first initial. At the bottom of the page, you’ll see license details and notations of any disciplinary actions taken against the doctor. You can also sign up for MBC subscriber alerts on the homepage. Alerts are sent when any action is taken against a license, such as probation, suspension or revocation.
