<p>Recently, while visiting Hawaii for a wedding, I took a walk by the beach on a terribly windy day. When I paid for lunch earlier, I failed to tightly snap the wallet that’s attached to my phone, so while I was walking back to my car, a sudden gust of wind ripped my driver’s license and credit cards out of the wallet and scattered them in a lava bed.<br><br>My first thought was, “How can I fly home tomorrow without my ID?” I started frantically searching for my items on the ground. I spotted one card and then another, but no driver’s license. Some Good Samaritans joined the search, and after a few minutes, we found my ID peeking out from some rocks. Eureka! <br><br>This whole episode got me thinking about what to do if you lose your ID or passport and need to take a domestic flight. As you may know, TSA doesn’t guarantee that you can get through security without appropriate identification. However, if you find yourself in this situation, there are some things you can try when you get to the airport. Obviously arrive early and talk to TSA right away. It’s also helpful to have other forms of identification like credit cards, a Global Entry card, employee IDs, insurance cards and even a prescription bottle with your name on it. I have a photo of my driver’s license on my phone, but that alone isn’t enough.<br><br>You can expect TSA to ask you more questions so they can verify you are who you say you are, and you also might be put through enhanced screening.
