Traditional sprinkler systems distribute water inefficiently, which can result in significant water loss from wind and evaporation. While installing a brand new irrigation system can be costly, an easy and affordable way to incorporate modern water-saving technology is to perform a sprinkler conversion.

One way to do this is to convert your existing sprinklers to streamers. Unlike traditional sprinklers, which shoot out water in a wide spray, streamers offer a more direct delivery to minimize water loss. The conversion is simple: All you have to do is replace the sprinkler nozzles in your existing system with streamer nozzles. At little more than $1 each, streamers are a very affordable upgrade.

Another option is to convert your sprinklers to a drip irrigation system. This is done by capping off most of the sprinkler heads and connecting the remaining one or two to irrigation hoses, which are placed strategically throughout your garden or landscape. By providing a more direct delivery of water to plants’ root zones, drip irrigation not only cuts down on unnecessary water loss, it also helps reduce unwanted weeds. Furthermore, a drip system’s water emitters can be individually adjusted to regulate how much water is distributed to different areas of the garden.

Use Diamond Certified Resource to find top rated companies.

Local, Top Rated Diamond Certified Companies Related to Your Topic
Santa Clara County Landscape Contractors
Sonoma County Landscape Contractors
San Mateo County Landscape Contractors
Alameda County Landscape Contractors
San Francisco Landscape Contractors

Related Articles
The Homeowner's Guide to Landscaping & Lawn Care
Get Expert Advice From Owners of Top Rated Local Companies
Become a Diamond Certified Preferred Member (Always Free)
