Pete Lamarre: A Seamless Connection
By James Florence, Diamond Certified Resource Reporter
SAN LEANDRO — When asked what led him to a career in the sunshades industry, Pete Lamarre says he entered through an adjacent field. “I spent more than a decade working in the fencing industry, where I designed custom iron and metal frames. At one point, my path crossed with Acme Sunshades Enterprise and things just clicked. Within three months of being hired, I was promoted to project manager and salesman. Today, I have my hands in every aspect of the process from start to finish. I basically do everything but install the products.”
As a sales specialist with Acme Sunshades Enterprise Inc., Pete points out some similarities between his previous and current livelihoods. “When you’re working with metal, you have to be very precise—otherwise, the entire job will end up wrong,” he explains. “In this regard, transitioning from working with fencing to awnings and sunshades was pretty seamless. Even better, there are a lot more design possibilities with sunshades, so as someone who loves design, this is literally a dream job for me.”
A resident of Livermore (where he lives with wife and daughter), Pete spends his time outside of work on a variety of active pastimes. “I’m French-Canadian, so I enjoy the snow and try to get up to Tahoe as often as I can. I also like spending time with my family and taking my daughter to the park.” Additionally, Pete further engages his interest in design by building custom sheds as a side business.
In his life and career, Pete espouses the importance of treating others with respect. “I treat every customer the way I’d want to be treated,” he affirms. “The same goes for their homes—I always take off my shoes before entering a customer’s home and do my best to respect their space. I believe respect is one of the most important principles for interacting with people, even more so as a professional.”
When asked the first thing he’d do if he were to retire tomorrow, Pete says he’d take a trip back home. “I’m originally from Montreal, Canada, and I’m the only member of my family living on the West Coast. I haven’t been back home in a long time, so the first thing I’d do is plan a trip to visit my family.”
