Russ Catanach

Vice President of Digital

Russ Catanach began his professional career in the analog world, but he eventually advanced to a digital livelihood. “I used to work in the marketing department for K101, a radio station in San Francisco,” he remembers. “This was the early ’90s, so the Internet was just starting to pick up steam. I was absolutely fascinated by web design, so I started learning more about it and ended up building K101’s first website. Pretty soon, I started getting calls to build and manage websites for other companies. As my interests in web marketing progressed, it only made sense to find a position where I could do it full-time, and that’s how I ended up at American Ratings Corporation.”

As Vice President of Digital, Russ says his favorite part of his job is cultivating small businesses via digital marketing. “In today’s web-driven marketplace, companies need a digital advantage to stand out from their competitors. I get a lot of fulfillment from giving companies the tools they need to grow and succeed.”

A resident of Novato, Russ devotes most of his free time to his wife, Renee, and their children, Nicole and Justin. “Our kids are involved in a lot of sports and artistic pursuits, so I do a lot of driving to and from soccer practices and play rehearsals,” he says. “At home, we like playing Minecraft together and playing catch in the backyard.” In addition to family activities, Russ enjoys watching sports and movies. “I’m a big San Francisco Giants fan, so I follow them during the season and try to attend games when I get a chance. I also like watching movies—a couple of my favorites are ‘Back to the Future’ and ‘Field of Dreams.’”

In his life and career, Russ lives by a simple philosophy. “Life is short, so you have to do what makes you happy and makes you feel good about yourself,” he says. “That’s basically how I feel about my job at ARC. By helping businesses and consumers alike, I’m able to enjoy what I do and get satisfaction from having a positive impact.”
