Get a pre-demolition survey. This survey will determine the condition of the site to be demolished and whether there’s any lead paint, asbestos or other hazardous materials present in the structure. This is very important to ensure the safety of the crew and the proper performance of the job.

2. Deal with utilities. Prior to demolishing a building, make sure you’ve dealt with and capped off (where applicable) all utilities. These include the gas, power, water and sewer connections, as well as cable/internet and storm drains.

3. Acquire necessary permits. Any large-scale demotion project requires a permit, so make sure either you or your contractor procures this in advance of the project.

4. Consider hiring an engineer. If you’re taking on a significant demolition project, experts recommend getting an engineer involved. That way, the contractor and demolition company can follow their recommended guidelines when executing their work.

Use Diamond Certified Resource to find top rated companies

Local, Top Rated Diamond Certified Companies Related to Your Topic
Contra Costa County Demolition Contractors
Alameda County Demolition Contractors
Contra Costa County Excavation Contractors

Related Articles
The Homeowner's Guide to Excavating & Demolition
Get Expert Advice From Owners of Top Rated Local Companies
Become a Diamond Certified Preferred Member (Always Free)
