One often-overlooked aspect in this regard is restricting rodent access to a common entry point: the garage.

Rodents often enter garages through gaps in side doors. A good way to prevent this from happening is to install a door sweep on the underside of your door. If that doesn’t stop rodents from entering your garage, they may be getting in through the main door or another passage, which means you’ll need to set traps.

Some people don’t like setting snap traps because of the safety risk to pets and small children. This concern can be addressed by covering each trap with a cardboard box that contains one or two small holes that allow the rodent to enter. When choosing a box to cover the trap, make sure to pick one that’s tall enough for the trap’s swing arm to have sufficient clearance when triggered.

Peanut butter is effective bait for attracting rats and mice, but some savvy rodents find a way to get a meal without triggering the trap. To address this, place a small piece of paper towel on top of the peanut butter—they’ll saturate into each other and make it more difficult for rodents to get. Also, if peanut butter fails to be effective bait, try using dryer lint (rodents like to use it for nesting material).

Use Diamond Certified Resource to find top rated companies.

Local, Top Rated Diamond Certified Companies Related to Your Topic
Contra Costa County Pest Control Companies
Marin County Pest Control Companies
San Francisco Pest Control Companies
Santa Clara County Pest Control Companies
Alameda County Pest Control Companies

Related Articles
The Homeowner's Guide to Pest Control & Termite Services
Get Expert Advice From Owners of Top Rated Local Companies
Become a Diamond Certified Preferred Member (Always Free)
