Consider the following tips:

Regularly check the fluid. Transmission fluid is the lifeblood of your transmission, so make a point of checking yours regularly. Just pull out the dipstick and assess its level and condition. The fluid should have a pink color and a semi-sweet smell. If it looks dirty or smells burnt, you’re overdue for fluid replacement.

Promptly check transmission problems. Most transmission problems start small and get worse over time. Get your transmission checked right away when you notice a warning light on the dash, see a few drops of fluid on the garage floor or feel a change in the way the transmission operates.

Regularly service your transmission. Follow your manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule and get a complete fluid and filter change every year. This can add years to your transmission’s life.

Service the cooling system. Your car’s cooling system cools the transmission fluid as well as the engine. A faulty cooling system can simultaneously damage the engine and reduce transmission lifespan. In fact, transmission damage may occur long before the engine overheats.

Take your car to a transmission specialist. Regular service by a qualified specialist will extend the life of the transmission. General repair facilities usually don’t have the expertise to diagnose potential transmission problems early, before major repairs are required.

Use Diamond Certified Resource to find top rated companies.

Local, Top Rated Diamond Certified Companies Related to Your Topic
Contra Costa County Auto Transmission Shops
Marin County Auto Repair Shops
Santa Clara County Auto Repair Shops
Sonoma County Auto Repair Shops
San Mateo County Auto Repair Shops

Related Articles
The Essential Guide to Auto Transmissions
Get Expert Advice From Owners of Top Rated Local Companies
Become a Diamond Certified Preferred Member (Always Free)
