Spencer Brodie: Having a Blast
By Matt Solis, Editor
Spencer Brodie never planned on building a career in the construction industry, but when the opportunity presented itself in 2020, he recognized it as the right moment for a new beginning. “It kind of fell into my lap,” he recalls. “My friend was working as a project manager and really enjoying it, so I decided to try it for myself. I spent the next two years learning every phase of the project management process, from estimating to overseeing builds.”
In 2023, Spencer decided it was time to launch his own company, which he named Dynamite Construction Management after considering the advice of a beloved family member. “My grandfather owned a business for decades, and he used to tell me, ‘If you want to sell your company someday, don’t name it after yourself,’” he laughs. “He was an incredibly wise businessman, so I listened. I wanted something strong and memorable, so I landed on ‘Dynamite’ and went from there.”
Today, Spencer says his favorite part of his job comes at the end of the project. “The ‘before and after’ photos are everything. Even though my clients already live in those spaces, it never gets old to watch their faces when they see the side-by-side transformation.”
A lifelong resident of the Bay Area, Spencer currently lives in Napa with his wife, Sarah, where he enjoys the slower pace of life. “Every time I drive through the rolling vineyards, it reminds me how lucky I am to live here,” he says. “You still have access to the energy of the Bay Area, but Napa just feels calmer and more grounded.”
Outside of work, Spencer finds balance through creative pastimes and outdoor activities. “Cooking is probably my biggest hobby—I’ve been doing it most of my life,” he says. “I also love hiking and exploring nature. Being outside helps reset my mind.”
When it comes to a personal philosophy, Spencer believes in doing things correctly the first time. “That applies to construction and to life,” he offers. “I always tell my clients that I may not be the cheapest option, but I’m fair and I work hard, so if their budget allows, we can definitely build something beautiful together.”
