Ruben Perez Cabrera: Powering People
By Caitlyn Stair, Diamond Certified Research Reporter
For Ruben Perez Cabrera, electrical work is ultimately about solving problems, providing peace of mind and serving his community. Ruben first got involved in the electrical industry through his father, who introduced him to the trade at a young age. Growing up around jobsites, he developed an early appreciation for the hands-on nature of the work. “I knew I wanted to get started in the industry right after high school, since I was pretty much raised in it,” he recalls.
After graduation, Ruben immediately entered the field and quickly found himself drawn to both the technical side of electrical work and the relationships that came with it. “Getting to know people and being able to help them made me feel really good,” he says. “I realized I could make them happy by solving their problems.”
After his father passed away in 2025, Ruben and his brother, John, officially took over ownership of Fampeca Electric & Construction. “Our dad prepared us for these roles from a really young age,” he says. “We started as apprentices, doing all the heavy work in crawl space and attics, and gradually learned every part of the trade. We both took everything he taught us to make sure the company could keep running.”
Today, Ruben focuses on providing safe, code-compliant electrical work while making sure his clients understand the process from start to finish. He says communication, education and accountability are paramount on every project. “Electricity can be dangerous if it’s not installed correctly. If you have unpermitted work and something goes wrong, you could be at risk. That’s why it’s important to always have someone licensed and insured doing your electrical work.”
Ruben believes trust comes from transparency and education. “We make sure our customers understand how and why we’re doing certain things so they feel comfortable throughout the process,” he says. “We’re continuing to gain more knowledge and experience, so we’re only going to get better from here.”
Ruben also understands the responsibility that comes with electrical work itself. “You need electricity whenever you’re in a house, so it’s kind of a necessity,” he says. “I think it’s really important that I’m able to understand how it works and make sure it’s installed safely and correctly.”
A lifelong resident of the Bay Area, Ruben currently lives in Oakland, where he appreciates the diverse culture he’s exposed to on a daily basis. “There’s so much good food—you can get pretty much everything, from burritos to Greek food.” Outside of work, he enjoys staying active and is currently training for HYROX fitness competitions.
Looking ahead, Ruben is focused on growing Fampeca Electric & Construction while building on the foundation his father created. To that end, he and John recently expanded the company’s services to include solar installation, and he says he’s looking forward to developing those skills and certifications. “Getting certified for Enphase solar installation was a big step for us and we’re excited to build on it. We’ve been working hard to keep growing the company and continue what our dad started.”
Ask Me Anything!
Q: What’s your favorite band?
A: It changes every year, but right now, it’s Pierce the Veil. I really like their music because it gives me a lot of energy.
Q: Would you rather be somewhere cold or somewhere hot?
A: Somewhere cold. I’m not a fan of hot weather, especially when I’m running or working out.
Q: If you could immediately travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
A: Mexico, because we still have family in Puebla. My dad used to take us when we were younger, so it would be nice to visit and reconnect with everyone.
Q: Are you an early bird or a night owl?
A: An early bird. Once it hits 10pm, I’m ready for bed.
