John Perez Cabrera: Wiring a Family Legacy
By Caitlyn Stair, Diamond Certified Research Reporter
For John Perez Cabrera, electrical work is about more than completing projects—it’s about honesty, communication and being there for clients whenever they need help. He credits that approach to his father, who introduced him and his brother, Ruben, to the trade at an early age. “My dad established Fampeca Electric & Construction in 2008 and we grew up around the jobsites, so it felt natural to start doing apprentice-level work,” he says. “We started by doing all the heavy stuff, like going into crawl spaces and attics.”
John and Ruben eventually stepped into larger leadership roles after spending years working in the field and learning the operational side of the business. After their father passed away in 2025, they officially took over the company together. “We were already gaining experience in office work and learning how to run things, so we were able to continue without major problems,” says John. “We just took everything that he taught us and made sure the company could keep running.”
Today, John says he’s driven by the desire to help homeowners feel comfortable throughout the electrical process. “Whenever we give an estimate, we make sure to explain our reasoning. Ultimately, we just want our clients to have a better understanding of how their electrical systems work.”
John says one of the most rewarding parts of his job is connecting with people while working throughout the Greater Bay Area. “We’ve been everywhere—El Cerrito, Kensington, Walnut Creek, Concord, even Truckee one time—so it’s nice to be able to experience different places. Since we’re a smaller company, we’re able to quickly connect with homeowners and build better relationships with them.”
John grew up in the Bay Area and currently lives in Oakland, where he feels deeply connected to the community. “I really love it here,” he affirms. “The energy, the people, the weather, all the things to do…it’s amazing.” Outside of work, he enjoys driving; going to the gym; and spending time with his girlfriend, Alicia.
Looking ahead, John remains focused on personal and professional growth. “Ruben and I are continuing to gain more knowledge and experience, so we’re only going to get better from here,” he says. “Things were a little rocky at first, but we’ve been able to continue growing and learning every day.”
