Daniel Cassorla: Making the Jump

For Daniel Cassorla, construction work is practically written into his DNA. He spent much of his childhood tagging along to jobsites with his father, a general contractor who introduced him to the trades at an early age. Whether he was cleaning up debris or simply observing the work, he was immersed in the industry long before he considered it as a career.

In 2010, rather than immediately joining his father’s business, Daniel intentionally sought opportunities elsewhere to gain a broader understanding of the construction industry. “My dad built Clarity Construction almost entirely through word of mouth, but I wanted to see how other companies operated so I could learn what was possible,” he explains. “I learned a lot about systems and processes that I was able to apply later.”

When his father started considering retirement, Daniel saw an opportunity to continue the family legacy while bringing his own vision to the company. Today, his father lives in Florida while Daniel leads Clarity Construction in the Bay Area. “He didn’t want his legacy to go to waste,” he says. “I’m his only son, so it felt meaningful to continue what he built and take it into the future.”

Daniel says his favorite part of his job is helping clients come up with unique ideas for their construction projects. “We’re very design-forward, so we like to innovate and think outside the box. I love helping people come up with ideas that they may have never considered. Seeing their happy faces when we deliver the finished product is a great feeling.”

A resident of San Jose, Daniel says he appreciates the diversity of life in the South Bay. “We have a little bit of everything here, so you never know who you’re going to meet. I really like being surrounded by different cultures and perspectives.”

Outside of work, Daniel happily spends most of his free time with his wife, Yara, and their infant daughter, Naya (another child is on the way), but he also makes time for a particularly exciting hobby. “I started skydiving about six years ago,” he details. “I go a couple of times a week, so I have over 250 jumps under my belt by now.”

Looking ahead, Daniel hopes to one day use his experiences to help others reach their full potential. He says that if he retired tomorrow, his first move would likely be toward life coaching. “There are people in my life who helped me see the best in myself when I couldn’t see it,” he says. “I would love to do that for other people.”

Q: What’s your favorite thing to do on a rainy day?
A: Stay home with my family and relax.

Q: Coffee or tea?
A: Black coffee.

Q: What’s the strangest food you’ve ever eaten?
A: Durian in Thailand. It didn’t taste as bad as it smelled, but I probably wouldn’t eat it again.

Q: Do you share a birthday with anyone famous?
A: Robin Williams.

Q: Would you rather live in the city or the country?
A: The country. I like my peace and quiet.
