Ben Strashko: Family Ties
By Matt Solis, Editor
Growing up, Ben Strashko learned the ins and outs of construction from his father and older brother, both of whom were general contractors, so when it came time to choose a career for himself, the path was obvious. “Construction has always been in my family, so it came naturally to me,” he affirms. “I spent some time in the military and learned locksmithing, but it didn’t take long to return to my roots.”
In 2023, Ben launched Golden State Builders Group with a clear mission: to elevate customer care in the remodeling industry. “I spent a lot of time figuring out what people really want when it comes to working with a construction company,” he explains. “Ultimately, I wanted to create something bigger than just a local remodeler—a brand that could grow and serve people throughout California.”
Today, Ben says his favorite part of his job is the satisfaction that comes from a job well done. “There are so many moving parts during a remodeling project, from materials to crew members to timelines, so when it all comes together and the client is happy, it’s a great feeling.”
A relatively recent transplant to the Bay Area, Ben currently lives in Walnut Creek with his wife, Taylor, where he appreciates the tranquility of life in the East Bay. “I love it here—it’s quiet but there are still plenty of things to do,” he says. “Plus, the weather is good and the people are nice, so it’s a great place to live.”
When he’s not managing projects or meeting with clients, Ben enjoys spending quality time with Taylor; working out at the gym; and playing golf, soccer, and chess with friends. “I also like going to local gatherings and city events,” he adds. “I love getting to know people, so those are great opportunities to connect with others.”
When asked what his life might look like if he retired tomorrow, Ben says he would take advantage of the extra time to deepen his family connections. “My wife’s family lives in Michigan, my dad and my brother are in L.A., and my sister and her family are in Israel, so we always have to travel to see them. My dream is to have everyone together at the same time, so if I retired tomorrow, it would be easier to make that happen.”
