Here is a tip on how to spend your money wisely. Most people spend their money in the wrong order. A budget isn’t really a number; it’s your priorities written in dollars. The biggest mistake I see isn’t overspending, it’s spending in the wrong order. It’s easy to fall for the fancy faucets and finishes, because those are choices you can see and touch first. But the layout, the drawers, and the cabinet quality are what you’ll still be living with 10 or 20 years from now.

My rule: spend on what you use every single day and on what’s harder to change later. Once the walls are closed up, cosmetic choices can be updated down the road. Structural ones cannot, not without opening everything back up.
