How I would approach choosing a contractor is being confident in your decision really looking into their reviews, word of mouth looking on their website, seeing photos, really getting that, that basis before picking them. Then you start the conversation. Once you start the conversation, ask as many questions as you want.
If a contractor's unwilling to ask questions or seems like they're gonna get irritated or is getting irritated, then maybe that's not the right contractor for you. If a contractor's getting irritated, that means they're probably gonna be that way during the project. So if someone's willing to take the time just from an initial conversation, to me, that gives me a good feeling.
Some questions you should ask are, "Have you done this project before? Give me some examples." You're not looking for every detail of these projects, but you wanna feel comfortable with someone that you're hiring and paying to achieve your goals. So if you have a question on the permitting process and they can't give you any answers on how they pull permits, that's maybe not a good sign.
If you're doing window repairs, ask them different types of windows so you can feel confident. If you're not too sure what type of material goes in it, ask the question, and if the contractor can't answer that, then maybe you shouldn't hire them. Don't be afraid to ask those questions.
Don't be afraid to be involved, and also, don't be afraid to shop around. It's completely okay. You're not shopping around for the cheapest price. You're shopping around for quality. And when you look for quality and you're looking for that contractor that has the knowledge and expertise, that would give you the ability to make the best educated decision for yourself, 'cause you have to remember, you're living in this place.
You're living in this property. Whether it's your business or your residence, you're gonna be there. The contractor's gonna do the work, but then he's gone at the end of the day. So you wanna make sure that you're confident and you're happy with that decision, and that, you made the best educated decision for yourself.
