Getting your house fumigated for termites can feel overwhelming, especially if you’ve never gone through the process before. However, understanding what to expect ahead of time can make the experience much smoother and help prevent delays and unnecessary stress. Before fumigation begins, take the following steps:
- All consumable items (food, toothpaste, spices, medication, etc.) need to be sealed in special fumigation bags or removed from the property. Pets, fish and indoor plants must also be taken out of the home during treatment.
- While it’s uncommon, homes undergoing fumigation can become targets for break-ins, so make sure to remove all of your valuables. Also, some security systems may need to be turned off during the process since windows are partially opened for ventilation.
- Plan ahead for gas service reconnection after the fumigation is complete. If the gas company arrives and sees the fumigation tent is still up, they may leave and you’ll be without hot water for longer than necessary.
