When installed correctly, window tint can enhance the appearance of your vehicle while also contributing to a more comfortable driving experience. However, like many automotive upgrades, window tinting is surrounded by misconceptions that can lead to confusion or improper care. Here are the facts behind two common window tinting myths:
Myth #1: You can use any type of cleaning product on your windows after they’re tinted. Ammonia can cause tint to fade or deteriorate over time, so it’s best to avoid using traditional glass cleaners like Windex on the interior of your windows. Also, keep in mind that since tint is only applied to the inside of the glass, you can clean the exterior normally. For that reason, standard car washes are safe for vehicles with tinted windows.
Myth #2: You don’t have to recalibrate your vehicle’s camera if it’s not disconnected. Your car’s Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) uses sensors and cameras to enhance safety, so any camera that’s removed from its bracket during the tinting process must be recalibrated to ensure features like lane assistance and collision alerts work correctly.
