A little routine maintenance goes a long way toward keeping your dishwasher performing optimally. Here are a couple of ways to ensure your dishwasher stays efficient and lasts longer.
Clean the filter once a month. Your dishwasher’s filter traps food particles to prevent them from recirculating during the wash cycle. Over time, this debris can build up and reduce cleaning performance. To clean your filter, remove it (it’s usually located at the bottom of the tub), rinse it under warm water and use a soft brush or sponge to gently scrub off any gunk. Reinstall it securely to maintain optimal water flow and filtration.
Use vinegar or dishwasher cleaner to remove buildup. Mineral deposits and soap scum can clog the internal components of your dishwasher and dull your dishes. To perform a deep clean, pour a cup of white vinegar into the bottom of the empty tub, let it soak for an hour and then run a hot water cycle to flush out the buildup. You can also use a dishwasher cleaning tablet—just be sure to follow the instructions on the package.
