Moshe Spund: Assembling a Livelihood

By James Florence, Diamond Certified Resource Reporter

OAKLAND — As a kid, Moshe Spund enjoyed taking things apart and reassembling them, but he never thought he’d one day make a career out of it. “I’ve always had an interest in knowing how things work,” he affirms. “To me, it’s like a puzzle. If something isn’t working right, I enjoy the challenge of figuring out what’s causing it and how to repair it. Still, I never considered a career in appliance repair until I saw an online job listing. When I went in for the interview, I was skeptical, but once I started, I fell in love with the trade.”

In 2018 (roughly five years after he started as an appliance repair technician), Moshe and his longtime friend, Natan Framowitz, decided to join forces and start their own appliance repair company. “Natan and I have known each other since we were kids, and after I started doing appliance repair, I convinced him to join me in the trade. Eventually, we wanted to be more independent and provide better service for our clients, so we started our own business.”

Today, as owner of FixEm Appliance Repair, Moshe says his favorite part of his job is interacting with customers. “I enjoy meeting new people, getting to know them, hearing their stories and sharing some of mine. Along the way, I try to provide the best service I can and offer advice on appliance maintenance.”

A resident of Richmond, Moshe spends the bulk of his free time outside. “I’m a pretty outdoorsy guy, so I try to enjoy the California weather as much as possible,” he affirms. “I enjoy going hiking, skiing, and camping in places like Lake Tahoe and Yosemite.”

In his life and career, Moshe espouses the value of positivity. “I try to do at least one positive thing every day,” he says. “Whether I’m dealing with a client or a complete stranger, I make it a point to be kind and act in a selfless manner. I don’t like negativity—I’m all about keeping things positive and doing right by others.”

When asked the first thing he’d do if he were to retire tomorrow, Moshe says he’d probably start a new business. “I like to keep busy. I have a hard time imagining a life of just sitting on a beach and drinking margaritas. That may be fun for a while, but it would get old pretty fast.”

  • What To Ask References
Learning from Previous Appliance Repair Companies in Contra Costa County

It’s best to choose a Diamond Certified appliance repair company because all certified companies have passed an in-depth ratings process that most other companies can’t pass. If you want quality from an appliance repair company in Contra Costa County and the greater Bay Area, you can have confidence choosing a Diamond Certified company. Diamond Certified reports are available online for all certified companies. And you’ll never be fooled by fake reviews. That’s because all research is performed in live telephone interviews of actual customers.

If you can’t find a Diamond Certified appliance repair company within reach in Contra Costa County, you’ll have to do some research on your own. If you do, it’s wise to call some references provided by your appliance repair company. Keep in mind, though, that references provided to you by the appliance repair company are not equal in value to the large random sample of customers surveyed during the Diamond Certified ratings process. That’s because references given to customers from companies are cherry-picked instead of randomly selected from all their customers. So the representatives will likely give you a few customers to call that they know are satisfied.

If you do call references on your own, specifically ask for a list of the company’s 10 most recent customers. This will help avoid them giving you the names of only customers they know were satisfied.

    1. Would you recommend this appliance repair company to your family and friends?
    2. Did the appliance repairman show up on time?
    3. What type of appliance did you have repaired?
    4. Did the appliance repair company representative act and appear professional?
    5. Were you satisfied with the service from the (appliance repair company name)?
    6. If you need an appliance repaired in the future, will you consider going back to this appliance repair company?
    7. Was the appliance repair company overpriced or reasonable?
