$26 for a Bottle of Water?

<img src=https://s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/dcr-apis/wp_contents/uploads/DCR-ADMIN/26%20water.jpeg alt=undefined style=height: auto;width: auto/>

I’ve been in a lot of hotel rooms lately and many of them have bottles of water on the desk. I’m never quite sure if they’re free or whether I’ll be charged, so I rarely drink them. I recently read about a man who complained that his hotel in Las Vegas charged him $26 for one bottle! He was shocked but the extras just kept piling up. He learned the hard way that with room service, there’s a $20 charge to serve the food on a plate rather than in a to-go bag. The same hotel has a daily $36 fee to access the pool and gym, even if you don’t use them. I suppose if guests keep paying these fees, hotels will keep charging them. But what’s the tipping point?

I remember the first time I paid $7 for a bottle of water at the airport…after that, I never forget to bring my own refillable. Last month at SFO, my husband and I didn’t have time to pack lunches so we bought food at the airport. We paid $55 for a carry-out smoothie, a stale sandwich and a mediocre salad. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and overpay for poor quality because of circumstances, but that’s still a choice. With a little forethought and better planning, you can gain the upper hand by packing your own food, bringing an empty water bottle and enjoying a higher quality of life while saving money.

Use Diamond Certified Resource to find top rated companies.

Related Articles
Your Guide to Being a Savvy Consumer
Get Expert Advice From Owners of Top Rated Local Companies
Become a Diamond Certified Preferred Member (Always Free) Find Top Rated Companies in the San Francisco Bay Area
