Luigi C.: Mind, Body and Soul
By James Florence, Diamond Certified Resource Reporter
REDWOOD CITY — When it came time to choose a professional path, Luigi C. settled on a trade that not only offered both physical and mental stimulation, but was also something he could be passionate about. “I’ve always been a worker,” he says. “I worked construction as a kid and did a lot of odd jobs here and there, but it was plumbing that really took my interest. Most of all, I liked the fact that it wasn’t just a physical job—I had to use my mind as well. I started out working for a company that specialized in water heaters and founded my own business in 2014. I absolutely love every aspect of what I do.”
Today, as owner of The Water Heater Guys, Inc., Luigi says his favorite part of his job is interacting with others. “I’m a people person, so getting to meet new people and make new friends is the icing on the cake for me. I also enjoy running my own business. It’s hard work, but it’s what I’m built for, and I like being able to treat customers and employees the way I’d want to be treated.”
As a resident of Redwood City, Luigi appreciates his convenient proximity to the rest of the Bay Area. “The best thing about living on the Peninsula is being centrally located,” he affirms. “East Bay, North Bay, South Bay, the beach—everything is within a relatively short distance.” When he’s not working, Luigi says the bulk of his free time revolves around sports. “I recently got back into boxing—not competitively, just as a way to stay fit. I’m also a big sports fan, and I root for the Raiders, Warriors and Giants.”
In regard to a professional philosophy, Luigi cites three critical virtues. “My mantra is, ‘Honest, hardworking and reliable’—three qualities my mother taught me when I was growing up,” he explains. “She was one of the kindest, hardest-working people I’ve ever known and a huge inspiration to me. Those three words are on every company logo because that’s what I strive for as a professional.”
When asked about his future career goals, Luigi lays out his plan to expand into charity work. “I’m passionate about helping people, and I’m working on starting a nonprofit that will be connected to my business. Basically, I want to give opportunities to young kids, single mothers and anyone else who is interested in learning about plumbing or running a business. The hope is that by giving people practical skills, we can be a stepping stone for them to reach bigger and better things.”
