Jason Patterson: A Clear Trajectory
By James Florence, Diamond Certified Resource Reporter
PETALUMA — An early introduction to the glass industry gave Jason Patterson a clear trajectory for his professional career. “I started working with a glass company in San Rafael when I was 16,” he remembers. “It was a good fit and I enjoyed the work, so I just stuck with it. Over time, I continued to learn about different aspects of the industry, from windows to glass doors and shower enclosures. After high school, I spent some time in retail management, where I gained valuable experience in customer service. In 2018, my wife, Margaret, and I started our own glass business.”
Today, as owner of See Through Glass & Door, Jason says his favorite part of his job is seeing the results of his work. “Glass is one of the last aspects of a remodeling project, so it’s neat to see our work in the context of the finished product. And, of course, it’s very gratifying to see the client happy with the result as well.”
A resident of Petaluma, Jason spends his time outside of work on a variety of pastimes. “Margaret and I have three kids, so we do a lot of family activities,” he details. “Other than that, my favorite hobby is gold mining. I usually go up to the Sacramento and Auburn areas where gold can still be found in the rivers. It’s hard work for a hobby—there’s a lot of hiking and digging involved—but it’s a lot of fun when you actually start finding stuff.”
In regard to a professional philosophy, Jason espouses the importance of honesty. “I get really frustrated when I see companies being dishonest with clients or operating in unethical ways,” he relates. “I don’t think that’s right, which is why I always try to be straightforward with our clients and do everything in an honest manner. I want our customers to have positive experiences with us and not worry that they’re being taken advantage of.”
When asked the first thing he’d do if he were to retire tomorrow, Jason says he’d take his favorite hobby to an unprecedented location. “I’d probably go gold mining in Alaska or Australia. There are a lot of gold-rich areas in those places, so it would be fun to see what I could find.”
