Industry Info

When selecting accessibility equipment, it’s important to fully understand your options. The term “accessibility equipment” is meant to include a wide range of products designed to remove access barriers for those with mobility challenges related to disabilities and age. Trouble spots often include stairs, house entrances, steep inclines or ramps, vehicle access points and other public areas. Equipment can be both cost effective and space efficient for homeowners whose architectural layouts are constrained due to space or budgetary concerns. Recommendations often include:

Elevators. They’re a space-efficient solution and can add value to a property.

Inclined platform lifts. Usually installed to ride along a guide rail, platform lifts can be modified for straight or curved staircases. They can be installed both indoors and outdoors.

Stairway chairlifts. Typically the more affordable solution for navigating stairways along a track or rail, chairlifts can also be mounted to an existing staircase.

Vertical platform lifts. They’re a space-efficient method when ramps or traditional elevators aren’t practical.

The Accessibility Equipment Manufacturer’s Association (AEMA) works to encourage all commercial installation companies to participate in the Certified Accessibility and Private Residence Lift Technician training program provided by the National Association of Elevator Contractors (NAEC). Ask a prospective contractor if they participate in the program before letting them install accessibility equipment in your home.

When assessing a potential contractor for accessibility equipment installation, try to decipher if the company representative seems attentive and patient with understanding your specific needs. Ask about the variety of available options to get a sense of their industry experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is my house suitable for a stair lift? Where will it go?

A: Several manufacturers offer a range of versatile products specifically designed to fit conveniently on most staircases. We’ll ensure the right fit by assessing your stairway before work begins.

Q: How long will a chairlift installation take?

A: It varies depending on the type and customization required, but installation generally takes a few hours plus time for instructions and testing.

Q: How will the installation of a chairlift affect my home’s décor?

I would say the service is quite good. They serviced the product I already had installed, not by them. The product I have is lousy. There service was good though.

The owner and I are simpatico. He was able to explain the mechanical workings of the lift system, and knowing the workings allows me to service it myself.

Number one thing, they don't find problems that aren't there. I thought something serious was wrong with the lift. It turned out to be just a cable. He said if there is enough extra cable, we can use it at no charge. There was enough extra cable, so I was only charged a $35.00 fee to come out.

He knew what he was doing.

No high pressure sales whatsoever, and we checked out six other chair companies. Those companies were price gouging. We did not get anything like that with this company.
