Emmanuel Ramirez: Protecting What Matters
By Caitlyn Stair, Diamond Certified Research Reporter
For Emmanuel Ramirez, roofing isn’t just a trade—it’s a way to make sure people’s homes and families are protected for years to come.
Emmanuel first got involved in the roofing industry shortly after graduating from UC Santa Cruz, when he began working weekends with his father. What started as a temporary opportunity quickly evolved into something more meaningful. “I didn’t really have a job lined up, so when my dad asked if I wanted to work with him, I was like, ‘Sure, why not?’” he recalls. “I thought it would just be until I figured out my next step, but a decade later, I’m still here.”
Over time, Emmanuel developed his skills and gained a deep respect for the trade, even overcoming an early fear of heights. His career took a defining turn when he overheard his father and brother discussing the idea of starting their own company. “That really caught my attention,” he says. “The next week, I actually bought our first work vehicle as a surprise. My brother and I wanted to show our dad that we believed in what we were building together.”
Today, as co-owner of Build Atlas, Emmanuel focuses on the systems that ensure every project runs smoothly from start to finish. While he may not always be the face that customers see, his work plays a critical role behind the scenes. “My job is to help create the processes that lead to a smoother customer experience,” he explains. “The quality of a project doesn’t just happen at the end when you see the roof—a lot of it happens before the work even starts.”
Emmanuel says his passion for roofing comes from understanding its impact. “We’re protecting people’s homes, so if we don’t do our job correctly, it can lead to water damage, mold and structural issues. Even the details that others might overlook, like gutter systems, play a role in that protection.”
A lifelong resident of the Bay Area, Emmanuel currently lives in Brentwood with his dog, Jazzy, where he appreciates the East Bay’s balance of community and accessibility. “It’s very family-oriented here, which is important to me,” he says. Outside of work, he enjoys surfing, going on long walks, exploring local food spots and spending time with his close-knit family.
When it comes to a personal or professional philosophy, Emmanuel believes in showing up, staying disciplined and keeping a positive outlook. “You just have to do what needs to be done,” he offers. “I try to see everything as an opportunity to keep moving forward.”
