Dennys Galindo: Born to Build

In the world of home repair, experience often runs deeper than formal training. Thankfully, construction has long been a part of Dennys Galindo’s family background, with multiple generations making their careers in the industry. Dennys and his cousin started working alongside his uncle when they were on summer breaks from high school, and it didn’t take long for them to start thinking about building something of their very own. “We started Longshore Handyman as a handyman company, but we eventually got our contractor’s license and moved on to larger projects,” he details. “We professionalized the business into what it is today.”

Dennys says his upbringing in a construction-centered family shaped his perspective on the trade. While he initially explored other career paths through college, he ultimately returned to the industry with a deeper understanding of its challenges and rewards. “We’ve always had a love-hate relationship with construction in our family, but over time, we realized it was an intrinsic part of our culture. We’re good at it and it gives us a lot of fulfillment.”

For Dennys, the most rewarding parts of his job are the interactions with clients and the ability to follow projects through from beginning to end. “I like setting expectations for our clients and working hard to meet them,” he affirms. “At the end of their projects, I want everything to be the way we promised.”

A resident of Richmond, Dennys says his favorite aspect of life in the East Bay is the accessibility to nature and coastal spaces. “Within 30 minutes, I can go on all kinds of amazing walks along the bay,” he says. “I feel fortunate to have all of this right in my backyard.”

Outside of work, Dennys maintains a range of personal interests that reflect both discipline and curiosity, from working out at the gym to attending trading card conventions. “My cousin and I also like going to the Renaissance Faire every year,” he adds.

When it comes to guiding principles, Dennys emphasizes responsibility, effort and self-determination. “You can’t control the circumstances of your birth, but you can control how your life turns out after that,” he offers. “Ultimately, you’re only as good as the tools you use.”

Q: What’s your favorite way to relax on a rainy day?
A: I like making a grilled cheese sandwich and eating it with tomato soup.

A: Flight.

A: Sitting in my stroller and watching my mom talk to a woman who was sitting on a bench.
