So if you're looking to install a GFI outlet in a wet location such as garage, kitchen, or bathroom, uh, there's a few steps that you'd wanna take, uh, in order to replace it. Uh, first I would get into why you would need a GFI and what it does. Uh, a GFI is basically an interrupter. Um, if there's any ground faults, um, which is basically moisture or any problems in the wiring, that GFI will automatically trip, uh, sort of like a circuit breaker would.
Um, but this is just in the home rather than at the circuit breaker box. Um, first thing you would do is turn off power, uh, take out the, uh, outlet out of the wall. Then from there, you can turn power back on in order to label. Uh, you need to test which wire, um, is gonna be the line side, which is the power coming in, and you would also need to, to then know that any other wires are gonna be load side wires.
Uh, those load side wires are being protected by that GFI, so anything after the GFI is going to be protected. Um, so line side is coming in, and then load side is going out and being protected by the GFI. Uh, the GFI outlets, they are specifically labeled line and load, um, so that way you can put the line side cables onto the line side and the load side cables onto the load side, so the power goes in through the GFI and out to protect the other devices.
