PETALUMA — Host, Sarah Rutan: Whether you want to prevent ants or get rid of an existing infestation, you can benefit from an expert’s advice. Today we’re in Petaluma with Diamond Certified Expert Contributor Richard Estrada of ATCO Pest Control to learn a few tips.
Diamond Certified Expert Contributor, Richard Estrada: At various times of the year, ants make their way inside our home. The common question that we get is what should I do? I would avoid using any over the counter sprays. This tends to make the problem worse. Though usually insecticides that flush insects out, and so, when used on ants, they tend to just scatter, they will have some control. But we strongly recommend that you just take a washcloth or sponge soaked in water and soap and wipe up that trail. This will do away with the problem that you’re facing. And then take a look around and see what they’re attracted to.
I strongly encourage homeowners to rinse out containers before they put them in recycling. If you can, keep recycling and garbage away from the kitchen area, if that’s at all possible. It doesn’t give them any food source when you do that. And then the other thing I would recommend is find the trail of ants. Where did it come from? And show your pest professional when they arrive. This will help them in being able to effectively treat those ants for you.
