• Meet Our Expert Team: Editor Matthew Solis
 •
Matthew Solis is drawn to the creative side of editing and writing—seeing the potential in a piece of content and bringing together the details that create a bigger picture. Throughout his career, marketing has been less about promotion and more about helping local businesses put their best foot forward.

After earning his bachelor’s degree in 2007, Matthew began his career at NorthBay biz magazine, where he learned the editorial process and developed experience in marketing communications. In 2010, he joined American Ratings Corporation (ARC) as a staff writer and was promoted to senior editor just a few months later, eventually settling into his current role as editor.

Matthew oversees ARC’s editorial content and works to ensure every piece is clear and effective. He says his favorite part of his job is the literal act of editing. “I enjoy taking a raw piece of content and seeing the possibilities that other people often don’t,” he shares. “Being able to improve something that already exists is a challenge every time.”

A resident of Portland, Oregon, Matthew says he appreciates the city’s creative energy, community spirit, and endless opportunities to experience art and culture. Music has been a major part of his life since childhood, and most of his free time is spent recording, performing, and touring with his band. “Music is kind of like editing,” he says. “It’s about seeing the possibilities in something and shaping it into a bigger picture.”

After nearly two decades in the editorial field, Matthew believes the small details are often the most important. Whether he’s working on a project or navigating everyday life, he approaches things with the same mindset. “I believe that how you do anything is how you do everything,” he offers.
