Carlos Munoz: Staying Humble
By Matt Solis, Editor
Carlos Munoz’s entry into the swimming pool and landscaping industries began with humble roots and a dedication to learning multiple trades. “I’ve been doing landscape maintenance since 1995, starting with basic stuff like mowing lawns and then moving into irrigation and tree planting,” he explains. “I got involved with pool work in 2005 by doing hardscapes and working on the areas around swimming pools. After that, I started subcontracting for tile work, coping and waterfalls, so I gained a lot of hands-on experience with pool construction. Eventually, I decided to combine these skills and form Carlos Pools & Landscaping.”
Today, Carlos says his favorite part of his job is the personal connection it brings. “I love meeting new clients and collaborating with them to bring their visions to life. The interaction and sales aspects of the job are incredibly rewarding.”
A longtime resident of the Bay Area, Carlos currently lives in Brentwood with his wife, Sonia, and their two children. Family is at the heart of his life, and his household reflects that priority. “I feel so blessed to be a family man,” he affirms. “They even help me with the company—Sonia handles so much behind the scenes and our son, Jonathan, takes videos of jobs that we’ve done and uploads them to YouTube.”
When it comes to hobbies, soccer takes center stage for Carlos. “My 10-year-old is a goalie for the Diablo Vista soccer team, so we’re always at tournaments and practices,” he says. “Other than that, I like spending time at home, particularly during the summer. We have a big swimming pool, so our weekends often include swimming and barbecues.”
When asked what his life might look like if he retired tomorrow, Carlos admits it’s hard to imagine stepping away completely. “I love what I do and want to set a good example for my kids, so staying active is important to me,” he says. “But if I had to choose, I guess the first thing I would do is take my family on a vacation to see the world.”
