Don’t Ignore Changes in Your Well System

If your home suddenly has low water pressure or an inadequate water supply, it’s easy to assume your well pump is failing. However, these symptoms can have many different causes, so it’s important to have the entire system properly diagnosed. Here are some things to consider:

  • If the water pressure starts strong when you turn on a faucet but gradually fades, the pump may be clogged.
  • If the water comes and goes, the well may not be producing enough water to keep up with demand.
  • Rapid pump cycling (when the pump repeatedly turns on and off within short periods) can indicate a failing pressure tank.
  • Other potential culprits include clogged filters or water lines, faulty pressure switches and electrical problems.

Seasonal conditions can also affect the performance of your well. During warm, dry weather, households typically use more water for activities like watering lawns and washing cars. This increased demand can reveal a low-producing well that wasn’t noticeable during wetter or cooler months.
