The guy was super nice. I was stressed out during that part of my life. He really helped me a lot with my registration. He was super professional, helpful, and convenient. Usually you have to wait in line at the DMV with other people who need different things that take forever. It was great to have somewhere to go that specifically did this one service and do it quickly. People should go to get their registration stuff done if they have a busy schedule. “The first thing you should ask a DMV express service is whether it’s officially licensed with the DMV,” advises Faraz Saiyed, COO of Stickr Quickr – DMV Express Services in Fremont. “You should avoid any company that isn’t DMV-licensed. For example, there are ‘DMV runners’ who take people’s documents into the DMV, stand in line and handle the processing for them. I don’t recommend using DMV runners—not only are they unlicensed, but I’ve heard a lot of complaints about runners losing documents or not completing things in a timely manner, which results in penalties for the vehicle owners.”

In addition to asking about licensing, Mr. Saiyed recommends asking a DMV express service about the technology it uses. “The company should be connected to the DMV’s database so they can instantaneously process transactions and transfer information,” he says. “Few DMV service companies actually have these capabilities, so make sure you choose one that does.”

As Mr. Saiyed relates, there are times when the help of a good DMV express service can be invaluable. “We had one customer who got pulled over and suddenly realized his registration was expired. He remembered our website, and while the patrolman was writing him up, he went on his smartphone and registered the car. A minute later, he received email confirmation of the registration, which he showed to the patrolman. The patrolman double-checked on his computer, and sure enough, the car was registered. So, thanks to our service, the customer was able to get out of a ticket.”

Faraz Saiyed: An Express Opportunity

FREMONT — Tired of long lines and poor service at the DMV, Faraz Saiyed was determined to find a better option. When he did, he couldn’t help but share it with others. “My business partner, Mohammed, and I did insurance before getting into this business,” he recounts. “One day, I went to the DMV to renew my car registration, only to the find the line was about five hours long. Plus, when it finally was my turn, the service was lousy. Mohammed had a similar experience and we were like, ‘There has to be a better way.’ We started looking into it and were surprised to find the DMV had a training program wherein one could actually become an independent DMV service provider. We knew it was a great opportunity, so we did the training and began offering this service to our insurance clients. After a while, we decided we should open our services to the public, so we started Stickr Quickr in 2015.”

Today, as chief operating officer of Stickr Quickr – DMV Express Services, Faraz says his favorite part of his job is exceeding his customers’ expectations. “A lot of times, new customers walk into our office with a frown because they’re expecting it to be like the DMV. However, by the time they leave, they’re usually smiling because of how simple and pleasant the experience was. You might say we’re the ‘brighter side of the DMV.’”

A resident of Mountain View (where he lives with his wife, Christa), Faraz expresses his appreciation for the diversity to be found in the Bay Area. “We have such a great melting pot here,” he affirms. “I’ve traveled all over the United States and nothing compares to it. I love being able to meet people from so many different backgrounds and learn about their cultures.”

Outside of work, Faraz engages in a wide range of pastimes, from outdoor activities to sports. “I enjoy hiking, biking, camping—anything to do with the outdoors,” he affirms. “I also love watching sports. Being from the Bay Area, I’m a big fan of the 49ers and Warriors.” Faraz also enjoys spending time with family (especially his nieces and nephews) and keeping tabs on the world of high tech. “I love technology, so I like to keep up with the latest developments in computing, virtual reality and other areas.”

In regard to his professional career, Faraz espouses the value of providing helpful expertise. “Besides making the DMV process as painless as possible, we want to be a resource of information for our customers,” he explains. “The DMV isn’t known for being responsive, so there are a lot of questions out there that go unanswered. Mohammed and I have taken the time to learn about our industry in order to provide our customers with the information they need.”

When asked the first thing he’d do if he were to retire tomorrow, Faraz replies that he wouldn’t. “I love my job too much. A lot of people wake up in the morning and think, ‘Oh God, I have to go to work,’ but for me it’s the opposite—I look forward to going into the office because I’m excited to help people and learn new things.”

    FREMONT — Transferring a used vehicle can be a complex process that requires several pieces of documentation to complete. Whether you’re on the buyer’s or seller’s side of the transaction, if you’ve misplaced one of these documents, you might be feeling stressed. Don’t worry—you still have options that will allow you to complete the transfer.

    If you’re selling a vehicle and you can’t find its title, you’ll need to acquire two forms: an Application for Duplicate Title Form (Form REG 227) and a Vehicle/Vessel Transfer and Reassignment Form (Form REG 262). Keep in mind that the REG 227 form must be signed by the vehicle’s legal owner and notarized. Also, while the REG 227 can be downloaded online, the REG 262 is not available for download because it’s printed on security paper, which makes it compliant with federal odometer disclosure regulations. To obtain this form, visit your local DMV Express Service.

    If you just purchased a vehicle and lost the transfer paperwork, you’ll need to send REG 227 and REG 262 forms by certified mail to the registered owner. Include a cover letter that asks the owner to return the forms within 30 days. If your letter comes back marked “Return to Sender” because the owner no longer lives at the address, you can take it (unopened) to a DMV Express Service office and complete the transfer. Alternately, if you don’t receive a response from the owner within 30 days, you can take all of your paperwork (including a copy of the cover letter you sent) to the DMV Express Service office and complete the transfer.

    Diamond Certified Expert Contributor, Mohammed Ghatala: Are you selling your car and lost your title? Don’t fret. You can transfer your vehicle with a Reg 262 and a Reg 227. Just be sure to fill out all the required fields for selling your car without a title.

    Diamond Certified Expert Contributor, Faraz Saiyed: Here’s a quick tip if you’ve lost your transfer paperwork and you just purchased a vehicle. You can certify mail a Reg 227 and 262 to the registered owner with a cover letter saying that they need to respond in 30 days. If you receive a notice from the USPS stating that that is not their current address, you can take that letter, unopened, and go ahead and complete the transfer. The second potion is, is if you do not receive the letter in 30 days, you can take the copy paperwork, including the letter, the cover letter that you sent and complete the transfer. This is a simple, easy way for you to complete your transfer in case if you lost your paperwork.

I would say if you are stuck for time, they are effective.

I don't know. I have to go to the DMV tomorrow. For instance, I need to get my license renewed, because of a change of address that I have. I had to get a new license for the address change to take effect on both my registration and license. It's a bureaucracy.
