Comparative Summary

Maintaining customer satisfaction is a crucial aspect of any business, but it’s even more important for auto glass companies that have earned the prestigious Diamond Certified award. For Priceless Auto Glass, the key to achieving and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction is simple: prioritize quality in every aspect of its operations. “A windshield is a crucial component of driving safety, so its quality should always be a top priority,” says owner Ronnie Tannous. “By using premium windshields made by reliable manufacturers, we do our part to keep our customers safer on the road and satisfied with their purchases.”

Priceless Auto Glass has been installing and replacing windshields for all types of vehicles at its Santa Rosa facility since 2006. The company’s state-of-the-art equipment allows it to offer same-day services on most windshield replacement jobs, and it can also repair windshields that have been chipped by rocks and debris.

Unlike less experienced auto glass companies that lack professional diligence, Priceless Auto Glass is known for its careful, detail-oriented approach to the windshield installation process. “Rather than cutting corners, we take the necessary steps to ensure every installation is performed correctly,” affirms Mr. Tannous. “Our attention to detail and insistence on quality are the reasons we’re able to guarantee our work every time.”

To further differentiate itself from its competition, Priceless Auto Glass maintains an extensive inventory of products at its shop so customers don’t have to wait for their windshields to be ordered. “Since we keep such a large inventory, when a customer calls, we usually already have the windshield they need in stock,” says Mr. Tannous. “This also means we can often help drop-in customers, which is really convenient for people with busy schedules.”

Industry Info

Keep your windshield in top condition to get the full benefits of its safety features. A quality windshield is crucial for the performance and safety of every vehicle, so it’s important to keep yours in the best possible condition. In addition to conducting routine windshield inspections, there are numerous things you can do to prevent damage and maintain the integrity of the glass. Consider the following tips:

If you notice cracks or chips in your windshield, have it repaired immediately. Trash, pebbles, and sand particles can fracture the glass and cause dings that, if left unattended, can turn into bigger cracks that obscure your driving vision.

Don’t slam your doors. Slamming a car door causes the windshield to experience intense vibrations, which can cause dings to expand and spread over time.

Provide extra care during the winter. Avoid using hot water to remove ice from your windshield—it could cause cracking. Instead, use a spray bottle to apply a de-icing solution (one part water to one part vinegar). Use shallow, downward strokes to scrape the ice from the corner of the windshield toward the center. If you don’t have an ice scraper, you can use a plastic spatula.

Crack your windows when you park in direct sunlight. Small cracks in the glass can quickly expand and spread when there are considerable temperature differences on either side of the windshield. You can avoid this by cracking your windows, which prevents heat from building up inside your vehicle.

Avoid ammonia-based glass cleaners. In addition to being dangerous if inhaled, ammonia-based cleaners can negatively affect your windshield’s tint. Wipe down your windshield with a vinegar- or alcohol-based product on a weekly basis. Also, remember to use microfiber or cotton towels—they’re highly absorbent and don’t leave streaks or dust behind.

Make sure your wipers are working properly. A lot of windshield scratches are caused by sand particles and dirt from the wipers, so it’s important to check and properly clean them on a regular basis. Use a rag and rub windshield washer fluid along the blades to remove dust, sand particles, and other contaminants. Also, be sure to frequently refill your washer fluid to clear bugs or road debris from your view.

Ronnie Tannous: A Priceless Opportunity

By James Florence, Diamond Certified Resource Reporter

SANTA ROSA — Ronnie Tannous started out working in the restaurant business, but after a family member opened an auto glass shop, he found himself presented with a priceless opportunity. “My uncle opened the first Priceless Auto Glass in Ukiah eight years ago,” he remembers. “At that time, I was running a pizzeria in Kelseyville. A couple of years later, I went to work for him, and after a while we decided to open another location in Santa Rosa. I’ve been here for about four years now, and things are going very well.”

Today, Ronnie says his favorite part of his job is helping customers. “A lot of times, we’ll get someone who was just driving by and stopped in to check out our prices. When they realize they can get a good price and get the work done right then and there, they’re really happy. I enjoy making someone’s day like that.”

A resident of Santa Rosa, Ronnie expresses his appreciation for the town’s mid-sized character. “Santa Rosa is fairly large, but it also has a smaller, community-oriented feel,” he says. “We get a lot of word-of-mouth business, and I’ll often see customers when I’m out and about, so it’s neat getting to know people and being part of the community.”

Outside of work, Ronnie engages in a mixture of athletic and artistic activities. “I go to the gym five days a week and enjoy playing basketball and tennis, but I also consider myself a pretty artsy guy,” he says. “I majored in digital media, so I’ve done a lot of website marketing and animation. More than ten years ago, I did a six-month internship with the Sacramento Kings, which was a neat opportunity to blend my enjoyment of sports and creative art.”

In his life and career, Ronnie espouses the importance of continuous self-development. “Whether in my professional or personal life, I’m always looking to better myself, improve my skills and learn new ways of doing things,” he explains. “For example, with chip repair, I’ve learned tricks and techniques that will fix chips most people would call unrepairable, which saves my customers the cost of a new windshield. Basically, I want to be the best at what I do and offer a superior service.”

When asked the first thing he’d do if he were to retire tomorrow, Ronnie says he would board the next plane to Europe. “I’d definitely want to do some traveling. The first destination on my list would be Greece, because I’m 25 percent Greek and have never been there.”

Ask Me Anything!

A: The Golden State Warriors, the San Francisco Giants and the San Francisco 49ers.

A: Either 7 or 11. Those were my main numbers when I played team sports. I guess it’s because my birthday is July 11th: 7/11.

Q: What’s your favorite movie?
A: “Gladiator.”

Q: Pancakes or waffles?
A: Pancakes.

Q: What’s your favorite local restaurant?
A: Sweet T’s in Santa Rosa. They have a rib salad that I really enjoy.

  • How to Repair a Windshield Chip

SANTA ROSA — If you have a rock chip in your windshield, you may be wondering if it’s repairable. If the chip is no bigger than a quarter in size, good news: it can be repaired. However, you don’t want to procrastinate, because once it starts to spread, you may no longer have the option. Here’s a four-step process for repairing a windshield chip:

    1. Drill a hole into the windshield at the impact point of the chip. It’s important to make the hole slightly bigger than the chip itself, as this will ensure both the chip and any outgoing cracks are sealed when resin is applied.

    2. Apply resin to fill the gap you’ve created. This is done with a special tool that locks onto the windshield, allowing you to apply the resin with optimum accuracy. After pushing the resin into the gap, let it sit for a couple of minutes to harden.

    3. Apply pit resin to get rid of the divot in the windshield. After applying a small drop, cover the resin with a fine plastic film and use an ultraviolet light to speed up the drying process. Typically, the resin will dry within 30 seconds. Once it’s dried, scratch off the excess.

    4. Use pit polish to polish out the area and blend it with the rest of the windshield. Although you won’t be able to make the chip totally invisible, you can certainly make it less conspicuous. More importantly, you’ll stop the crack from spreading, which will save you the cost of a new windshield.

  • Video: How to Fix a Windshield Chip

    Complete Video Transcription:

SANTA ROSA — Host, Sarah Rutan: Even small rock chips can compromise the integrity of a windshield, so it’s important to repair them promptly. Today we’re in Santa Rosa with Diamond Certified Expert Contributor Ronnie Tannous of Priceless Auto Glass to learn how this is done.

Diamond Certified Expert Contributor, Ronnie Tannous: Today I will show you how to do a windshield repair, which is a chip on the windshield no bigger than a quarter size. And I will save you a new windshield. The first thing we do is we drill a bigger hole where the impact of the chip is. This is for the resin to go inside and to get into the air gap. So, it will seal the whole crack itself and the chip.

Okay, so, next, this is the tool we’ll be using. So, you want to put the end hole onto the chip, which is the impact area. And you’re going to put this onto the windshield. You’re going to lock it. And this is where you put the first resin. So, after you put the resin inside, you want to put this on top of it, drill it in, give it a little screw inside. This will push the resin into the windshield. And you have it sit there for about a minute or two. And a good trick is, after it’s been sitting there for a minute, you want to take it back out, let a little extra air inside, and then you want to screw it back in place. And then we’ll leave it there for another good minute or two.

You’re going to want to put the pit resin on top, which’ll get rid of the divot in the windshield. So, you put a small drop. You put this little plastic film on top of it. And we have an ultra-V light, which will speed up the process, so the resin will dry within 30 seconds, instead of, you know, 10 minutes of just leaving it there. You scratch off the extra resin, which will leave a small little spot which is the cover, the topper of the chip.

Once that’s done, you can get a polisher, a resin polish. You put that on there. You want to rub it inside. It will help blend the chip into the windshield so you can barely, barely see it. I would say, in most cases, with chip repair, visibly, it’ll look, you know, 75, 80% better. You’ll still see it a little bit. But, basically, the point of a chip repair is to save you a new windshield, so to stop the crack from spreading.
