He and his brother, Bob, do whatever they can to cater to their customers’ needs, including offering the convenience of extended hours and off-site estimating. If transportation is a problem, they can help with that, too. “We have rental cars brought in through Enterprise and Hertz,” says Mr. Koss. “They’ll come here and pick you up. And we’re happy to accommodate you ourselves, by giving you a ride home or picking you up when needed.”

It takes highly-qualified technicians using state-of-the-art equipment to do the complex work of repairing and restoring a vehicle that’s been involved in a collision. The professionals at Koss Collision Center are trained and certified through I-CAR, an international, nonprofit organization that focuses on providing the highest level of technical training for those in the collision industry. “It’s important to have the right equipment with the right training,” says Mr. Koss. “We’re an I-CAR Gold shop, which means our technicians have to be supplied with the right equipment to effectively do their job.”

A major concern for many customers is matching repair color with a vehicle’s original color. With its state-of-the-art computerized paint mixing system, expert color matching is an everyday occurrence at Koss Collision Center, says Mr. Ross. “We assure our customers that when they pick up their car, the paint will match,” he says. “We take a great deal of pride in color matching, and we strive to make sure the car you drive away in looks the same as it did before the collision.”

It’s important to find an auto repair shop that gives you a sense of confidence and trust. “You have to feel comfortable with the shop,” says Don Koss, co-owner of Koss Collision Center. “You have to believe in the people you’re working with and feel confident they’re going to do the job right. If you’re not comfortable with the people or the shop, it’s going to be a difficult time for everyone involved.”

Make sure you use a shop that employs trained and skilled technicians who have access to the best equipment. Some shops work on all makes and models of cars, and some specialize. Ask if they use genuine OEM (original equipment manufacturer) replacement parts, and make sure you authorize all repairs. Remember, you have the right to choose which body shop you want to use, so pick the one that seems best for your particular needs.

It’s always a good idea to talk to other people who’ve done business with the repair shop you’re considering. If you don’t know anyone, don’t be afraid to ask for a list of referrals. Call a few former customers and inquire about what they’ve had done on their cars and whether or not they were satisfied with the service, price and follow-up. Check to see how long the company has been in business. Do they have an established reputation?
