Gaelic Construction provides a variety of general contracting services for residential and commercial clients throughout San Francisco. The company’s primary focus is handling foundation, framing, and structural concrete work for new construction and remodeling projects, but it also builds exterior decks and fences; installs windows, doors and siding; and more.

Owner Jerimiah Deasy says Gaelic Construction’s ability to solve the unique challenges that often arise during foundation work has been an important part of its success. “This type of work is complicated, so we get a real sense of satisfaction when we’re able to utilize our knowledge and experience to provide high-quality results for our clients. Everyone who works here is passionate about taking on new challenges.”

Gaelic Construction takes a comprehensive approach to quality control by providing every job with the hands-on expertise of Mr. Deasy himself. “I want my clients to know I care about their projects, so I’m on the jobsite every day to supervise work and answer any questions they have,” he says. “Even when I’m not there, they know they can immediately reach me by phone or email, which makes them feel more comfortable with the entire process.”

Company Philosophy

“Customer satisfaction is very important to us, so we communicate clearly with our clients throughout every step of the construction process and keep them involved in their projects as much as possible. We want to develop long-term relationships with our clients, and consistently being present and available for them is a crucial part of that.”

Comparative Summary

Maintaining customer satisfaction is a crucial aspect of any business, but it’s even more important for foundation contractors that have earned the prestigious Diamond Certified award. For Gaelic Construction, the key to achieving and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction is simple: utilize its wide ranging expertise to perform high-quality work that meets and exceeds its clients’ expectations. “We believe in doing the job right the first time,” says owner Jerimiah Deasy. “We’re present and hands-on with every project, and that allows us to ensure the best possible results.”

Gaelic Construction has been providing general contracting services for residential and commercial clients throughout San Francisco since 2007. The company’s primary focus is handling foundation, structural concrete and framing work for remodeling and new construction projects, but it can also install windows, doors and siding; build exterior fences and decks; and more.

Unlike contracting firms whose owners delegate project management responsibilities to less experienced employees, Gaelic Construction provides every job with the onsite expertise of Mr. Deasy himself. “I love being as hands-on as possible, and when I can’t be onsite all the time, I visit at least two or three times a day to make sure everything is going smoothly,” he says. “Our clients love seeing how involved I am–it shows them I respect their projects and will be available to answer any questions they have.”

Another unique attribute of Gaelic Construction is its ability to handle all foundation lifting, stabilizing and shoring work instead of relying on outside companies, which, according to Mr. Deasy, gives its clients more confidence in the services they receive. “Since we don’t rely on anyone else to complete our projects, we’re able to control the quality of both our work and customer service,” he says. “That way, we can guarantee everything is completed on time and to our clients’ exact specifications.”

Industry Info

If you’re a homeowner, make sure you know how to spot the warning signs of foundation problems. Foundation problems are a common and frustrating occurrence in the Bay Area. Often caused by poor construction or aging foundation materials and exacerbated by subtle movements of the earth and large shifts/earthquakes, foundation cracks and sloping foundations can drastically lower the value of your home or even make it uninhabitable until you’ve had a contractor repair the damage. Knowing the signs of foundation problems can give you a distinct advantage, as early detection can result in smaller repairs and less damage to your home.

Here are some signs that your home may need foundation repairs or a new foundation:

  • Uneven or sloping floors
  • Cracks in exterior or interior brickwork
  • Displaced or cracked moldings
  • Interior or exterior wall rotation
  • Cracked or bowing walls
  • Visible cracks in the floor or floor tiles
  • Cracks in the foundation
  • Doors and windows that suddenly won’t open or close properly
  • The separation of doors, windows and garage doors
  • New spaces or gaps between walls and the ceiling or floor
  • Walls that separate from the house

If you’ve noticed any of these signs, you should call a qualified foundation contractor to assess the problem and review your options. Depending on the cause of the problem, you’ll either be able to fix the issue easily and cost-effectively or you’ll need a major repair.

When it comes to foundation repairs, don’t look for the cheapest answer. Caulk, epoxy and patches may be enough to fix small cracks caused by seismic shifts, but you need to address the root of the problem if your home has a major foundation problem. Your home’s value and the safety of your family can be at risk if you ignore needed repairs or hire an unqualified contractor.

Jerimiah Deasy, owner of Gaelic Construction in San Francisco, recommends finding a foundation contractor that clearly explains the work that needs to be done. “A good contractor will take you through the process step-by-step before starting any work,” he says. “It can be helpful to look at blueprints of past projects so you can get a clear picture of how the process works and what repairs the contractor will be making.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long will my project take to complete?

A: That depends on the extent of the work. Regardless of the timeline we project for your job, we try to move as quickly as possible on every phase of work. We’ll get back to you as soon as possible when you request an estimate, and we’ll start the job soon after you sign the contract.

Q: Can you handle every step of my construction project?

A: Absolutely. We can handle almost every part of a construction project in-house, from foundation to finish work, and we have access to many professionals who can help us complete certain aspects, including sheet metal workers, plumbers and finish carpenters.

Q: Will I have to move out of my house while you’re working?

A: It depends on the project. We’ve removed foundations from homes and poured new foundations while the families continued living on the premises. You’ll have some inconveniences along the way, but most of the time, we’ll be able to accommodate you so you can stay in your home while we work.

Q: Is communication a priority for your company?

A: Yes. Communication is important to us, so we regularly talk to our customers in person, over the phone or by email. We’re very approachable—we like our clients to keep in touch with us, and we want them to know they can come to us whenever they have a question.

Q: Do I need to get permits for my project or will you handle that?

A: Either way. A lot of people like to get permits themselves, but if you don’t have the time or don’t want to deal with the process, we can certainly handle that part.

They were always on time and they were always the last to leave the job. Jeri is a very efficient guy. I've known him through framing. Compared to other people, I would say he is almost twice as efficient as the people before him. He's on the job from 7:00 AM and he has his lunch on the job, which is a big time saver.
